Reimbursement Through OPWDD

We are passionate about making play accessible to everyone. If your child is eligible for services from the NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), your Play Palace membership, punch pass, or even party costs could be covered.

How Does It Work?
While Play Palace is not an OPWDD provider, our services often qualify for reimbursement under two common programs:
* Self-Direction: You can include a Play Palace membership in your child’s budget under Individual Directed Goods and Services (IDGS). This is a perfect fit for achieving community integration and recreational goals.
* Family Support Services (FSS): Families can often use their FSS allowance to pay for recreational programs like ours and then submit the receipts for reimbursement.
Your Next Steps:
Navigating the process is straightforward, and it starts with a conversation.
* Contact Your Coordinator: Reach out to your OPWDD Care Manager or Support Broker. They are your best resource to confirm which funding options are available to you.
* Discuss Your Goals: Explain how Play Palace's inclusive environment, sensory rooms (Thrive Cove and Dream Cloud), and social opportunities can help your child meet the goals in their plan.
* We'll Provide the Paperwork: Once you're ready, we will provide you with a detailed receipt or invoice for your purchase. You will submit this to your Fiscal Intermediary or FSS agency for reimbursement.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What exactly should I ask my Care Manager or Support Broker?

You can say something like, "We're interested in a membership at Play Palace in Rochester. It's an inclusive facility with sensory rooms. Can we use our Self-Direction budget for IDGS or our Family Support Services funds to cover the cost?"

What makes Play Palace a good choice for my child's goals?

Play Palace is designed to support a wide range of developmental goals, including:* Gross Motor Skills: Our giant play castle encourages climbing, crawling, and coordination.* Sensory Needs: We have two dedicated sensory rooms: the calming, sea-themed 'Thrive Cove' and the gentle, sky-themed 'Dream Cloud'.* Socialization: We offer a safe, structured environment for children to interact and build social skills.* Inclusivity: Our mission is to provide a welcoming space for people of all abilities, and our staff are trained to support all guests.

Can I get a Family Membership reimbursed?

This depends on your specific plan, but typically, Self-Direction budgets are intended for the individual with the disability. We recommend purchasing an Individual Membership for your child. Remember, with any child's pass or membership, up to two adults are included for free.

Can I get reimbursement for more than just memberships?

Yes. Depending on your child's plan, funds can often be used for our 5- or 10-visit Punch Passes or even for Birthday Parties, as they promote socialization and community participation.

Do you fill out the OPWDD forms for me?

While we cannot fill out your official OPWDD paperwork, we play a key role in the process. We will provide you with the essential document you need: a detailed, paid invoice that clearly lists the service (e.g., 'Individual Monthly Membership'), the cost, date of purchase, and all of our business information.

Please Note: Play Palace is not an OPWDD provider and cannot guarantee reimbursement. Approval is at the discretion of OPWDD and depends entirely on your child's individual plan. We are here to support you with the necessary documentation from our end.
